Corruption, A multi-dimentional view


[this  post was  drafted in the height of anti-corruption movement lead by Anna Hajare , now posting un edited , with an intention to expand as time permits ]





Why someone  becomes corrupt?



A human view


1) A few of them does corruption because their peers do it and make good money. why'd they loose a chance ?


To stop : moral values in schools, harping of these values th popular medium


2)Other few indulge in corruption forcibly due to pressure from masters in the job

To Stop: clarity of task, transparency in execution in  governance

3) There are some who are forced to do corruption because of threat  made to their and relatives  life

To Stop : independent control of criminal elements, a force to guard d people open to threat.

4)Corruption is an easy medium of making money ,call of luxury demands more money and corruption is a quicker approach

to stop : same as 1


Why people pay bribe

1) because they have more money and less time, our administrative mechanism is slow.

Solution : increase efficiency th e governance and define SLA for each public service

2) to cover a wrong done

Solution: efficient criminal justice system

3) to get some favour from someone in power

From an administrative perspective

Why corruption happens in administration ?

1) masters ask for it
2) lot of work and less resource, hence existing resource uses his position to advantage
3) unclear rules
4) opaque administration

Political perspective

1) they have to win election and it is assumed that it need money
2)no sure way of income, most have it as profession.
3) money is perceived source of power that elect them
4) to save their influence and to create more influence

Economics

1) given inequalities of income, people tend to earn quick bucks
2) high money transactions involves people in power, hence increases their vulnerability to be exposed to corrupt

Social reasons
1) peer pressure to achieve a social status
2) materialist consumerisation
3) degraded values and corrupt conscience
4) mental pressure

Criminal reasons

1) Threat to life, property
2) Blackmail
3) Threat to family and extended family


People who bribe ?

Contractors, Black market operators, Criminals, common people needing to get their job done from govt establishment.


People who can take bribe ?

People in power to allocate resource.
